the CIty setting.

“LINA” (lee-nuh)

— The above are inspiration photos from different places for qualities in a potential story setting. For now, the story is written in a fictional locale, called Lina, which is envisioned as a smaller city, whose airport would struggle with the large, grounded, international flight. It has a “destination” vibe with a nice climate and a great blend of the urban and the natural. … If we’re able to film on location, the story may instead use the name of the actual place. Otherwise, we’ll dream up Lina as best we can.

“THE ARAS”

— If the city remains fictional, so too, may the region. Think of The Aras like “The South” in the US or “The Balkans” in Europe. It’s a kind of distinct, cultural area within a greater land mass. The plan for now is to embrace the culture of an actual setting but to take advantage of a fictional name by playing with policy and society.

THE LOCAL SPOTS.

— A rough layout of the main, story block, featuring the hotel on the right and the cafe just across the street.

“THE WILD HORSE”

— With limited hotel rooms in the city, a few of the stranded passengers end up at a smaller hotel that’s quaint but that has seen its better days. It’s envisioned as a property with less than 50 rooms, in a downtown/central setting, with a homey and kitschy (but still cool) vibe. Stray animals may roam. … After deciding to stay in Lina, the remaining passengers will call The Wild Horse home for the foreseeable future, and in time, the hotel may become more than anticipated to all.

“RUBY LEE’S”

— Ruby Lee’s is a local cafe by day and bar by night. While in waiting, the passengers get most of their meals here and those who remain will continue to treat it as both a kitchen and a living room of sorts. It’s envisioned as next door to or down the street from the hotel. It’s a colorful, casual and neatly compact space. Maybe there’s walls of books to take in and out during the day and maybe late at night, there’s a little music and dancing, among other vices.
