big, dumb plane. whole new world.

WELCOME IN — Here’s the gist: So Far Bound is a scripted, live-action TV series about a few strangers whose flight strands them in the same, far off place. With this site, we’re raising funds and finding people to make the first season of the series. It’s all a big challenge, but a fun one. You can use the sidebar or navigation to browse information on story and production however you’d like. Along the way, if you think the project is worth a try, please consider supporting at any time by pressing the blue button. Cheers!

— At dawn, in Lina. The strangers’ flight makes an unplanned landing.

— the top ten things about “bound.”

01 THE STORYLINE

— During a flight over the Atlantic, a faulty plane is forced to land off course, leaving passengers from around the world stuck in a far off town. Some of those passengers connect, and then decide, to stay and start a life together during what becomes a historic time in that different land.

02 THE SETTINGS

— The story is set in “Lina,” a fictional city with a warmer climate and a nice mix of the urban (historical architecture) and the natural (hills and sea). Much of the action takes place in two spots: 1) “The Wild Horse,” a quaint but outdated hotel and 2) “Ruby Lee’s,” a lively bar and cafe.

03 THE CHARACTERS

— The series revolves around eight passengers who, prior to the flight, had never met. That main cast would operate in an equal, co-star manner, kind of like that hit show from the ‘90s. Bound would also feature regular, supporting characters (the locals) to add variety and depth to the story.

04 THE VIBES

— Let’s break it down: comedy, then drama, then adventure. Overall, Bound plays light, like a romantic or buddy comedy. We want to have a good time first and then slide into moments of quiet or drama. There’s adventure in that there’s a frontier or discovery element for the characters.

05 THE FORMAT

— Episodes run between 30-40 minutes. Though Bound has some larger threads, we want to first pay allegiance to the sitcom, with shorter, less serialized episodes and more spirited, “adventure-of-the-week” structures. … The series is outlined at five seasons, over a five year period.

06 THE LOOKS

— Things we love in direction: featured faces; a neat pan or tilt; an extra beat or block; trying stuff. Things we love in design: a pop of color; being a little kitschy; natural elements; texture. … On screen, Bound won’t be too rowdy, rather it’ll move more methodically with moments of riot.

07 THE SOUNDS

— Once the filming location is final, we’ll tailor the story to the cultural qualities of the setting, like language and music. For example, if it’s a Caribbean setting expect an Afro/Latin theme and score. Until then, much of the crafting has been done with a heavy dose of American Soul and Latin Jazz.

08 THE BACKGROUND

— I’m Evan, the one speaking in the first (and third) person. All the above was born years ago in a pursuit of acting, which lead me to writing in hopes of creating opportunity. The spark for writing Bound was memories of time abroad in my early 20s, plus a hoard of Nat Geo magazines.

09 THE PLATFORM

— If we do get to make Bound, we’ll need somewhere proper to put it (in addition to good ol’ YouTube). So, we’ll also work now to build a production company and viewing platform, called TAR, which we hope can be an engine for both a So Far Bound series and other companion projects.

10 THE OUTLOOK

— There’s a lot of TV (and Tik Toks) out there. There’s also a lot time passed in movie and TV history. Add those up and it’s hard to stand out. All we can do is work to make some-thing fun and with a few ideas, and to use our grassroots limitations as an opening to try (and to be) new things.

 “THE REVIEW.”

— Listen, we might be here for a little while. So, as we build and campaign, check here for profiles and writing on the experience of making So Far Bound, and also for articles on other, industry musings (just for fun). See more updates any time @tarpictures.
